MANSELL FINISHES THIRD IN PORSCHE CARRERA CUP DEBUT

Single seater ace Scott Mansell made a stunning debut in the worlds fastest one make production series, the Porsche Carrera Cup at Silverstone this weekend. Following an invitation to drive the Team Autosport entry car he managed to qualify fifth fastest in his first ever race with a roof over his head, continuing his strong showing in testing the previous day.
"That’s found another three-tenths, so we’re getting a bit closer. It’s great fun driving the Porsche and I’m just finding the limits" said the young Mansell after qualifying.

In Race one on a drying track Westbrook, Harvey, Faulkner and Templeman battled at the front with fifth place providing more fabulous racing as four cars battled furiously for position.
Scott Mansell made the early running in the Porsche Cars with Team Autosport entry. However, as his tyres suffered the battling Red Line Racing cars of Nigel Rice and Stephen Shanly reeled him in. Then, in the later stages, Steve Clark worked into contention to make it a four-way battle, with the cars running three abreast on several occasions.
Ultimately, it was Shanly who worked to the front of the pack to take fifth from Clark, Rice and Mansell. "That was really, really good. It was very fair," said Shanly. "That was a great race; my car was really good at the end when the others were struggling," added Clark.
Mansell started race two from eighth on the grid quickly working his way up to seventh. He enjoyed a major battle with Stephen Shanly and Nigel Rice and at one point Mansell came past the pits with two wheels on the grass. He battled brilliantly working his way through the field to take fourth place over the line only to be moved up to third following Tim Harvey's disqualification.
"I've learnt a lot about driving a very different type of car and I've really enjoyed the weekend. I would like to say a big thank you to Autosport and Porsche Motorsport for this wonderful opportunity" said Mansell.
